Supporting Children with Attention Deficit

As a general recommendation, limiting screen time on television—where children passively use their attention skills—is of great importance for those experiencing attention deficits. While watching TV, a child does not engage in active mental processing and does not need to concentrate due to the stimulating, colorful, and loud content. However, real-life situations that require focus do not offer this abundance of constant stimuli.

When dealing with attention deficits, it is beneficial to reduce sugar and foods with artificial additives in the child's diet as much as possible. Research also shows that using Omega-3 supplements under a doctor's supervision can have positive effects on managing attention deficits.

For preschool children with attention issues, it is important to focus on a single object or activity at a time, ensuring they complete one task before transitioning to another. For example, rather than playing with toy cars while drawing a picture, they should finish drawing first and then play with the cars.

During primary school years, establishing a structured study routine is essential, and only the current study material should be present on their desk. Allowing children to juggle multiple tasks at once during this period is not helpful; it is far better for them to focus their attention on a single subject for a set period.
