Teaching Your Child Time Management

Give them time. Instead of telling your child what to do at the very last second, give them a gentle heads-up 5 to 10 minutes beforehand. For example, you might say, 'We will be sitting down for dinner in 10 minutes.' This simple warning allows your child to wrap up what they are doing and learn how to transition smoothly between activities.
Be a good role model. Show your child how to manage and value time effectively. Try to drop them off and pick them up from school on time, and keep your promises regarding schedules. Try to avoid expressing panic about being late for work or anxiety over unfinished projects in front of your children.
Let them experience natural consequences. If your child struggles with managing their time, allow them to learn from the results. Explain that when they do not use their study time efficiently, they will have less time left for the playful activities they love.
